The exhibition is dedicated to the 8 women and the 13 men who inspired the creation of the European Union in which we live today:

Nicole Fontaine,
Ursula Hirschmann,
Nilde Iotti,
Marga Klompé,
Anna Lindh,
Melina Mercouri,
Simone Veil,
Louise Weiss.

Founding Fathers
Konrad Adenauer,
Joseph Bech,
Johan Willem Beyen,
Winston Churchill.
Alcide De Gasperi,
Walter Hallstein,
Helmut Kohl,
Sicco Mansholt,
François Mitterand,
Jean Monnet,
Robert Schuman,
Paul-Henri Spaak,
Altiero Spinelli.

The main theme of the exhibition is to underline that these women and men were convinced that the peoples of Europe, while remaining proud of their identity and national history, were determined to overcome the ancient divisions and to build together their common destiny.

These are the visionary leaders who inspired the creation of the European Union in which we live today: without their commitment and their motivation we could not live in the context of peace and stability that we take for granted today. Resistance fighters or lawyers and parliamentarians, the pioneers of the EU were a heterogeneous group of people driven by the same ideals: peace, unity and prosperity in Europe.
In addition to the pioneers presented below, many others have inspired the European project and have worked tirelessly to achieve it.

The exhibition is divided into 21 panels and it combines drawings and photographs with a series of bilingual texts, written in Italian and English, in order to reach the national and international audience.
The exhibition has been produced and inaugurated on the occasion of the Europe Day on 9 May 2014 in Venice.
