27.06.22 - 24-07.22 - Exhibition "The Founding Mothers and Fathers of the European Union"- Granze (PD)
From 27 June to 24 July, Granze is hosting the exhibition 'The Mothers and Founding Fathers of the European Union' at the municipal library. The exhibition on official EU documentation is curated by the Europe Direct Venezia Veneto Office.
"The Mothers and Founding Fathers of the European Union" is the setting for the project Municipalities without Borders, the meeting of European citizens financed by the Europe for Citizens Programme that will take place from 22 to 24 July 2022 in the Municipality of Granze. With a delay of two years due to the pandemic, citizens from Hungary, Romania, Poland and Croatia will be welcomed by the town of Padua on the feast day of Granze's patron saint, Santa Cristina. Granze has prepared a programme full of moments of reflection and entertainment, in which sports activities and entertainment will be combined with a debate on the future of the European Union. Joining Granze in the "Communes without Borders" will be ten municipalities of the Estense area that have been participating in the sports event for years: Bagnoli di Sopra, Lozzo Atestino, Solesino, Barbona, Vighizzolo, Villa Estense, Sant'Urbano, Vò and Stanghella.
"The community of Granze is happy to return to normality after some difficult years, and what better occasion than meeting citizens from other European countries who will join us during the days of the celebrations for the patron saint of Granze," said the mayor, Damiano Fusaro. The project Municipalities without Borders is implemented in cooperation with the Province of Padua.
Without their efforts and motivations we could not live in a context of peace and stability which we are taking for granted. Fighters of resistance or lawyers or commissioners, the pioneers of the EU were a heterogenous group of people moved by the same ideals: peace and prosperity in Europe.
Oltre ai pionieri presentati di seguito, molti altri hanno ispirato il progetto europeo e hanno lavorato instancabilmente per realizzarlo.
Anna Lindh,
Melina Mercouri,
Nicole Fontaine,
Ursula Hirschmann,
Louise Weiss,
Simone Veil.
Helmut Kohl,
François Mitterand.
The leitmotif of the exhibition is the conviction of these men and women that the peoples of Europe, while remaining proud of their national identity and history, were determined to overcome ancient divisions and build their common destiny together. The exhibition consists of 21 panels and combines drawings and photographs with a series of bilingual texts, written in Italian and English, in order to reach a national and international audience.
