If you had a high fever, would you throw away the thermometer or call the doctor? We do not see the climate crisis not because it is small, but because it is enormous, pervasive and frightens us. Amitav Ghosh calls this denial "great blindness" We can still avoid irreversible tipping points, but time is running out.
The meeting will be opened by Francesca Vianello - Europe Direct Venezia Veneto, Luciana Favaro - EuCliPa.IT, and Erica Villa - Distretto Veneziano Ricerca e Innovazione (DVRI).
Fabio Trincardi - Associato Senior CNR-ISMAR will speak.
The series of meetings "We Are the Green Deal 2026" is organised by Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Municipality of Venice, EuCliPA.it – Association of Italian Ambassadors for the European Climate Pact, CNR-ISP Venice (National Research Council and Institute of Polar Sciences), CNR-ISMAR (CNR Institute of Marine Sciences) and DVRI – Venetian Research and Innovation District, comprising a total of three meetings between May and September 2026 on climate change and the need for a radical transformation of lifestyles, the economy and society.
The May science café is part of the programme for Europe Day in Venice, 4–31 May 2026.

The EuCliPA.it Association was founded in 2022 and has served as the National Coordinator for Italy of the European Climate Pact since 2025, with the aim of making climate action a tangible, local and participatory reality. The association promotes knowledge and awareness of the climate and ecological crisis and also implements initiatives and projects that help tackle the effects of climate change, thanks to the knowledge, passion and commitment of its members, in the belief that "every small action, when taken together, can make a difference".
