This is the second event in the Il Green Deal siamo noi 2026 series, organised by Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the City of Venice, EuCliPA.it – Association of Italian Ambassadors of the European Climate Pact, CNR-ISP Venice (National Research Council, Institute of Polar Sciences)CNR-ISMAR (Institute of Marine Sciences of the CNR) and DVRI – Venetian District for Research and Innovation. The programme consists of three events between May and September 2026 focusing on climate change and on the need for a radical transformation of lifestyles, the economy and society.

The Climate Walk on Friday, 12 June 2026, will start from the main entrance of the Basilica dei Frari in Venice (VE).
Admission is free, subject to prior registration via the following Google Form.

Our homes, historic palaces, streets, monuments and other public and private buildings have been built throughout history using a variety of materials, which have always been closely linked to the local area, their availability and transport routes. During the walk, led by researchers Francesca Alvisi from CNR-ISMAR Bologna, Paola De Nuntiis from CNR-ISAC Bologna and Angela Squassina fromUniversità Iuav di Venezia, participants will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Venice and its surrounding area. By observing and touching the different stone materials from the Venetian Alps and Pre-Alps, participants will learn to recognise their technical characteristics and geological origin, very often linked to the sea, and to distinguish them from materials that come from farther away. Participants will also discover how and where these materials were used by architects in the construction of the city’s historic buildings, leaving their geological mark — often unique and unmistakable — and influencing their forms and structures. Finally, the group will identify and analyse together the effects of climate change on these materials, as well as the solutions proposed and adopted thanks to scientific research.

With the occasion, the call for tenders for the International Competition of Communication and Creativity "Climate ChanCe" will be presented, which reaches its fourteen edition.

The international competition of communication and creativity for published and unpublished works on the theme of climate change is organized by the Shylock University Theatre Center of Venice, in collaboration with Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the City of Venice and the Ca' Foscari University of Venice and under the patronage of  CMCCWWF ITALIALEGAMBIENTE and ISDE ITALIA - Doctors for the Environment

The initiative aims to enhance works and projects that offer an effective message on the theme of the climate crisis and the environmental and social aspects related to it.
