On Monday, September 26, 2022The European Day of Languages will be celebrated throughout Europe. Venice is also taking part in the official celebrations.

The Department of Linguistic and Comparative Cultural Studies of Ca' Foscari University of Venice, USR Academic Regional Office in Veneto, the italian headquarters of the Council of Europe and Europe Direct of the City of Venice - the channel of information of the European Union in the Veneto region which has the City of Venice as lead - they organize the European Day of the Languages 2022.

Since 2021 Europe Direct of the City of Venice has been the national contact person for the Day for the European Centre for Modern Languages of the Council of Europe in Graz, responsible for the official web site translated in 37 different languages.

As in previous editions and since 2001, the initiative invites reflection on the importance of language learning for the integral growth of the person and the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity as an intangible heritage to be cherished, respected, and protected.

The 2022 is the European year of the Youth! The European Commission designated 2022 as the European Year of Youth to give increasing importance and space to the priorities of young people in policy areas relevant to the European Union, and the European Day of Languages 2022 fits into the context of activities dedicated to young Europeans.

The 22nd edition of the European Day of Languages takes place on September 26, 2022 at the Santa Margherita Auditorium in Venice.
The new event, "Languages for a Democratic Culture," celebrates linguistic and cultural plurality in Europe. The European Day of Languages features male and female students from schools in the Veneto Region and Ca' Foscari University involved in various educational activities for multiple language acquisition and cultural awareness.

The recent translation into Italian of the Reference Framework of Competencies for a Culture of Democracy edited by the Council of Europe gives the event the purpose of promoting values such as democracy and freedom, which are the basis of European coexistence. Therefore, European Day of Languages 2022 is dressed in yellow and blue, in European support for the people of Ukraine to condemn war and the violation of rights in all their forms.

In 2021 it was 20 years of the European Day of Languages
