Every Tuesday from 9 to 30 May at 9 p.m., the Cinema Dante d'essai in Mestre hosted screenings of 4 finalist films of this year's Lux Audience Award, an initiative organised in collaboration between the European Parliament of Milan, Cinema Dante d'essai, CINIT-Cineforum Italiano and Europe Direct Venezia Veneto del Comune di Venezia
The screenings were in original language with Italian subtitles and were introduced by CINIT-Cineforum Italiano, with free admission subject to availability.

The LUX European Cinema Audience Award was introduced in 2020 and is presented annually by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas

Four of the five finalists for this year's Lux Audience Award will be screened during the Europe 2023 festival:
Triangle of Sadness by Ruben Östlund (Sweden, Germany, France, Turkey, Greece, Denmark, United Kingdom, United States)
Close by Lukas Dhont (Belgium, France, Netherlands),
Alcarràs by Carla Simón (Spain, Italy),
Fogo Fátuo by João Pedro Rodrigues (Portugal, France).

In Europe, viewers will be able to watch the films and rate them (from five stars for an "excellent" film to one for a "poor" film) until 12 June 2023. As in previous editions, the winner of the award will be determined by both the public vote and the vote of MEPs (each contributing 50 %). The European Parliament will announce the winner on 27 June 2023 in Brussels during the plenary session. Ten lucky voting spectators will be invited to attend the ceremony, while others will have the chance to win a series of prizes related to the finalist films.

The voting platform is already available on the official LUX Prize website.

PROGRAMME:

- Tuesday 9 May, 9.00 p.m. at Cinema Dante d'essai, Via Sernaglia 10, Mestre

Triangle of Sadness, Ruben Östlund's film, emerged as the undisputed winner of the 35th edition of the European Film Awards, winning all four categories for which it was nominated: Best European Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor (for Zlatko Burić). The Swedish director, already winner of two Palme d'Or awards and a nominee in the official selection of the 2011 LUX Prize with the film Play, stages another witty social satire on the evils of capitalism. Alcarràs, the film by Carla Simón that recently won a Golden Bear and was nominated in two categories at the European Film Awards (best European film and best screenplay), is a light but touching film that tells the story of a family forced to abandon their orchard in the Catalan countryside. The film, which brings to the screen the harsh reality of a disappearing world, was chosen as the Spanish nominee for Best International Film at the Oscars 2023.
