By booking a guided tour, you can also gain free access on the same day to the temporary exhibition
‘Pertini. The Art of Democracy’, the first major
exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to
Sandro Pertini, the most beloved President of our Republic. The exhibition marks a year of
significant anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of the Resistance, the
130th anniversary of Pertini’s birth, and the
referendum that established the Republic. A unique opportunity to tell the story of a man who lived through the 20th century and embodied the values of
freedom, justice and democracy. The exhibition will be based on Pertini’s extraordinary private collection, now housed at the Museum of Savona: paintings, sculptures and works that the President chose as a reflection of his ethical and civic vision of art. Alongside these
masterpieces, archive materials, photographs, letters, period footage and previously unpublished documents – held by the
“Filippo Turati” Foundation for Historical Studies in Florence and various Italian institutions, including the
Salce Collection National Museum in Treviso and the
Sandro Pertini House Museum in Stella – will bring to life the crucial moments of his life and of Italian history. Straddling
realism and
abstraction, these works reflect Pertini’s free-spirited yet attentive gaze on the present, capable of capturing the tensions inherent in artistic exploration. The exhibition pays tribute to the values of
freedom, the
Resistance and
human dignity, and invites us to reflect on the power of art as an
instrument of democracy and shared memory.
