On Monday 4 May 2026 at 4.30 pm at Caffè Florian in Venice, a meeting entitled ‘European heritage at risk: rebirth, resilience, reimagination’ will take place. This is the first event in the ‘CAFFÈ EUROPA’ series, a successful initiative organised by the European Parliament’s Information Office in Milan, which brings together members of the public to discuss a range of current issues.

The ‘CAFFÈ EUROPA’ series of events is a highlight of the Europe Day celebrations in Venice, and this event is the result of a collaboration between the Council of Europe – which has its sole Italian office in Venice – Europe Direct at the City of Venice, and Caffè Florian.

This year’s cultural café takes its cue from the theme chosen for the 2026 European Heritage Days, which is ‘Heritage at Risk: Rebirth, Resilience, Reimagination’. Through this lens, the café aims to explore with participants the importance of protecting cultural heritage in the face of a range of modern challenges, from climate change to digitalisation. As well as highlighting the risks, the theme also presents an opportunity to explore how institutions, individuals and communities can engage in safeguarding cultural heritage (tangible and intangible cultural assets and landscape heritage).

The event will take place at Caffè Florian, 57 Piazza San Marco, Venice.
