Town twinning between the Cities of Venice and St. Petersburg

On July 18 2013, the Mayor of Venice, Giorgio Orsoni, and the Governor of St. Petersburg (Russian Federation), Georgy Poltavchenko, signed the Twinning Agreement between the two cities in St. Petersburg, building on the previous Cooperation Agreement of Feb. 18 2006.

The city of St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is a historic city in Russia, founded in 1703 by Peter the Great. Located by the Neva River, it is famous for its impressive architecture, canals and the Hermitage Museum. Also known as “the Venice of the North,” St. Petersburg is an important cultural and historical center, full of theaters, museums and imperial palaces.
