Town twinning between the Cities of Venice and Istanbul

 

On June 8 2007, the Mayor of Venice, Massimo Cacciari, and the Mayor of Istanbul, Mimar Kadir Topbaş, signed the Twinning Agreement between the two cities in Venice.

The city of Istanbul

Istanbul is Turkey's largest city, located between Europe and Asia, divided by the Bosphorus. Famous for its thousand-year history, it has been the capital of empires such as the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman. Its iconic sites include the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and Topkapi Palace. The city today is a vibrant cultural, commercial and tourist center.
