SYNOPSIS
The Book Thief (2013) is set in Nazi Germany and tells the story of Liesel Meminger, a little girl who is sent to live with a foster family after the death of her little brother. Taken in by Hans and Rosa Hubermann, Liesel gradually discovers the power of words and books, which become her salvation in a world marked by war and propaganda. Once she has learned to read with Hans's help, Liesel begins stealing books and befriends Rudy, a loyal and rebellious boy her age, while the family hides Max, a young Jewish man on the run, in their home. Through these bonds and a love of reading, the film shows how stories can give hope even in the most difficult times.
