Europe Day 2020 Celebrations in Venice - October

#FestaEuVenezia2020

From 2 to 31 October 2020 the event "The Future of Europe, Europe of the future" was held, a great celebration in the heart of Venice to celebrate Europe Day, now in its eighth edition. Despite the covid-19 emergency, this edition of the Europe Day Celebrations does not stop and goes digital, a sign of the European nature and resilience of the City of Venice and of the partners who have always collaborated with it.

In compliance with the anti covid containment measures, the scheduled events were divided into two periods: May and October, focusing the month of May on the events that could be translated into virtual activities and in October the events that require the physical presence of citizens

The festival’s purpose is to remember the two most significant historical dates for Europe:
- May 5, 1949: foundation of the Council of Europe with the Treaty of London
- May 9, 1950: birth of the European Union with the "Schuman declaration" on the occasion of the Paris speech (click here to find out more).

The date of the event is significant since May 9 represents Europe Day. 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. In fact, on 9 May 1950, a few years after the end of the Second World War that had devastated the old continent, Robert Schuman, Foreign Minister of the French government, presented the proposal to create an organized Europe, to maintain peaceful relations between the States that made it. The proposal, known as the "Schuman Declaration", is considered the birth certificate of the European Union.
Around this emblematic date, Europe Day is celebrated every year with the organization of several events carried out by the European institutions and the Member States.
