08.05.2026 Webinar "Lessons of Europe 2026" - Lesson 8 "A Quantum Leap: How the European Communities Became A Union"

On Friday, 8 May 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00, the eighth webinar in the "Lessons of Europe" series was held, titled "A Quantum Leap: How the European Communities Became A Union". ==> This event is part of the 2026 Europe Day celebrations in Venice.

The lecture was coordinated by Daniele Pasquinucci of the University of Siena.

The establishment of the European Union, through the Maastrich Treaty, represented a pivotal advancement in the process of European integration. Its creation was intimately linked to the end of the Cold War and to the imperative of rethinking the common institutions forged in the 1950s to foster peace, economic prosperity, and political stability across its member states.
This webinar, part of the "Lessons of Europe 2026" series, seeks to explore the principal stages of the transformation of the European Community into a Union, with particular emphasis on the role of the international context in initiating and shaping this decisive juncture.
The webinar is open to all citizens wishing to deepen their understanding of the history and evolution of the European Union.

The meeting was held online from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in English and was free and open to all citizens, university and secondary school students, and journalists.
