Access City Award: candidacies for the 11th edition are open

The Commission has launched the eleventh Access City Award, the competition that recognises and celebrates the will, capacity and efforts of EU cities to become more accessible to people with disabilities and elderly people.

Accessible cities can help ensure fair access, improve the quality of life and ensure that everyone can benefit from the resources they have to offer. This new edition of the Access City Award will take into account the current global situation and a special mention "Accessibility of public services in times of pandemic" will be created to reward the efforts of cities.

EU cities with over 50,000 inhabitants may apply. The European Commission will award the first, second and third Cities, with EUR 150,000, EUR 120,000 and EUR 80,000 respectively, at an award ceremony in early December.

Last year, the Access City Award was awarded to Warsaw, for having succeeded in substantially improving its accessibility in a short period of time.

Deadline: 9 September 2020.
