31.05-9.06.2019 Centenary edition of the Trade Fair of Padua
Its first edition was in fact an absolutely innovative project for the time, a bet won by the organizers given the 642 exhibitors and 170,000 exhibitors. In 1919 there was still no present fair district that was built in 1921, the first stable exhibition district of Italy as well as the first edition of the Sample Fair of Padua was the first of Italy. It took place in 3 locations: in Prato della Valle, historical place for the ancient cattle fairs, at the Palazzo della Ragione and at the Istituto Pietro Selvatico.
The very first edition of the sample is also to be remembered because it was the occasion on which the Paduan Company “Fratelli Barbieri” presented its latest creation: l’Aperol that first became one of the ingredients for venetian aperitif spritz and then basic ingredient for the spritz intended as a cocktail, recorded in 2011 in the list of official cocktails of the IBA (International bartenders association).
At the Sample Fair in Padua 2019, the Aperol terrace was set up above the restaurant Marco Polo for a Centenary in the name of the “patavinitas”. To celebrate the 100 years was also present the italian beer Pilsen, also born in 1919.
From 1919 to the present day, the International Trade Fair in Padua has come a long way: already in the second edition, in fact, it was asserted for its international dimension with 256 foreign exhibitors out of 1025. That edition was inaugurated with a concert of the maesto Arturo Toscanin at the Palazzo della Ragione. The Fair continued with the post-war editions testifying the social and economic rebirth of the country with the birth of the specialized fairs of B2B sector, the construction of the new façade of the fairground damaged by the bombings of World War II and the new main pavilion called the Palace of Nations” (from whose ashes will be born the new Congress Center).
In the Seventies, then, the fairs on leisure and dedicated to passions were born, and gradually up to the present day with further increase of events and planned initiatives.
Today the Fair of Padua felt the need to structure itself as a hub of innovation able to dialogue training and research, economy, knowledge and exhibition spaces and to regain its weight and importance.
