23.04.2026 Webinar "Lessons of Europe 2026" - Lesson 5 "Priorities and resources: the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework"

On Thursday, 23 April 2026, from 10.00 am to 11.30 am, the fifth webinar in the "Lessons of Europe" series will be held, titled "Priorities and resources: the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework".

The lesson begins with opening remarks by Carlo Corazza, Director of the European Parliament Office in Italy.

The lecture is coordinated by Paolo Ravelli, Europe Direct Lombardia, with contributions from Ilaria Ottaviano, "G. D’Annunzio" University of Chieti-Pescara, Salvatore De Vita, European Commission – Representation in Italy, and Francesco Rossi Salvemini, European Commission – Representation in Italy.

The proposal for the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework, presented by the European Commission in July 2025 and currently under consideration by the European Council, marks a clear departure from previous European Union budgets. Significant changes concern the architecture and governance of the future MFF which, drawing on the experience of Next Generation EU, introduces elements of flexibility to allow for timely intervention in the event of a crisis.
In the thematic allocation of resources and the definition of how the budget is constructed on the revenue side, the new instruments aim to address current economic and global challenges: these include the new European Competitiveness Fund, Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, implemented through national and regional partnership plans.

The meeting will be held online from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and is free and open to all citizens, university and secondary school students, and journalists.
