23-25.10.2026 With Europe Direct the European Union at the Venicemarathon

 

Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Municipality of Venice is once again taking part in the initiatives organised as part of the Venicemarathon taking place on Sunday, 25 October 2026. Europe Direct is taking part in the Venicemarathon with ExpoSport, which takes place during the two days leading up to the Venicemarathon: Friday, 23 and Saturday, 24 October 2026. This event is entirely dedicated to people who love sport and make it part of their lives. Visitors can not only discover leading companies and organisations in the sector, but also try out the latest products on the market and meet national and international figures from the world of running. A true sports fair held at San Giuliano Park in Mestre, Venice, near the Porta Blu entrance (opening hours: Friday, 23 October, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm, and Saturday, 24 October, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm). Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Municipality of Venice will be there together with the Civil Protection Service of the Metropolitan City of Venice. Europe Direct of the City of Venice has been taking part in sporting events aimed at young people since 2008, including, on this occasion, initiatives connected with the VeniceMarathon, such as ExpoSport and the Family Run.

The aim of the initiative is to promote the values that the European Union attributes to Sport as a tool for social integration and intercultural dialogue, and as an opportunity to promote the principles of peace, tolerance and mutual understanding. Education and Sport are two key areas for fostering the harmonious development of young people's personalities, creating models of social interaction and identification, and providing emotional and affective experiences combined with a sense of belonging. The strong and positive message that the initiative aims to convey to young people is that sport should be seen as an "additional and cross-cutting competence" that can enhance and harmonise its inherent values, such as fair play, self-improvement, team spirit and tolerance, helping people to live their everyday lives better.
 
Through sport, the EU aims to promote educational and social values and encourage their dissemination among all citizens, as advocated in the White Paper on Sport, adopted by the European Commission in 2007 with the aim of providing strategic guidance on the role of sport in Europe, encouraging debate and raising public awareness of the needs and specific characteristics of the sector.

The event is part of the Time to Move 2026 campaign: a series of in-person and online events organised by the Eurodesk network across Europe every year around October, focusing on youth mobility opportunities in Europe.
