On Friday, 8 May 2026, from
10:00 to 11:00, the eighth webinar in the
"Lessons of Europe" series will be held, titled
"A Quantum Leap: How the European Communities Became A Union".
The establishment of the European Union, through the Maastrich Treaty, represented a pivotal advancement in the process of European integration. Its creation was intimately linked to the end of the Cold War and to the imperative of rethinking the common institutions forged in the 1950s to foster peace, economic prosperity, and political stability across its member states.
This webinar, part of the
"Lessons of Europe 2026" series, seeks to explore the principal stages of the
transformation of the European Community into a Union, with particular emphasis on the role of the
international context in initiating and shaping this decisive juncture.
The webinar is open to all citizens wishing to deepen their understanding of the history and evolution of the European Union.
The meeting will be held online from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in English and is free and open to all citizens, university and secondary school students, and journalists.
