The origins of Pastiglie Leone, one of the oldest confectionery companies in Europe, date back to 1857 when Luigi Leone decided to open a candy store in the town of Alba in Northwest Italy. Here, he began to produce small, friable, multi-colored pastilles which were delicately flavoured, thirst quenching and digestive. After only a few years, he moved his business to Turin in order to guarantee supply of his confectionery creations to the Royal and Noble houses which had become passionate consumers.

Even today, Leone's pastilles are the best expression of the company's image. Available in 28 flavours, the decorative tin containers, which have won various prizes, are refined collector's items all over the world. In 1934, Giselda Balla Monero, together with her brother, Celso Balla, took over the Pastiglie Leone business and transferred production to the new and current premises. They transformed the Art Deco style building at 242, Corso Regina Margherita, Turin into a modern factory producing pastilles, candies and chocolate.
