

On November the 30th 2003 was presented in Venice the Declaration of Euro - Mediterranean Mayors, a document that promotes the stability and the development in the Mediterranean, pointing out the priorities for integration among different states.
The Declaration of Euro- Mediterranean Mayors, was approved by EUROCITIES' Euromed Commission (a network of mayor European cities) in Byblos (Lebanon) on September the 27th , and co-signed by 102 Mayors from 28 States (16 European and 9 of the Mediterranean area) thanks to the sponsorship of the city of Venice's.
The declaration was addressed in Naples during the Euro-Mediterranean conference of Ministers for Foreign Affairs (December the 2nd and 3rd 2003) and at the Italian Presidency of the European Union's Council. The purpose was to ask the implementation of a program for the cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean local authorities, ranging within MEDA's communitarian programs.
Within the MEDA program, Venice, it's participating at the Med Act project, aiming to promote cooperation between local governments in the area. Venice, in particular, has developed the " Urban Euro-Mediterranean Culture" Theme, and has organized an event within the " Seventh exposition of Goods and cultural Activities", presenting projects towards an improvement of cultural goods realized by Mediterranean cities representatives of Morocco, Lebanon, Turkey, Algeria, Egypt, Cyprus, Jordan, Malta, Israel, and Palestine. A further space was dedicated to the Palestinian local body (APLA) and to the Union of Israel's local Bodies (ULAI), which have presented their common project "northern Holy Land cultural heritage Itinerary.
