No Excuse 2015

Logo of No Excuse 2015

2005 is a milestone year in the fight against global poverty. Within this framework, the United Nations organised the "Milennium +5" Summit, held in New York on 14th -16th September 2005, which revealed the urgent need of setting up activities at all levels to achieve the Millennium Development Goals adopted in year 2000 at the First Millennium Summit:

The international network of cities and tows UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments) actively co-operated with the United Nations in order to involve the largest possible number of local governments in this initiative, through the promotion of the so-called "Local Government Millennium Declaration".

As member of the UCLG Network, the City of Venice sustained the Campaign by signing the "Local Government Millennium Declaration", thus committing itself to promote concrete actions for the achievement of the eight Millennium Goals.
During the days of the "Millennium +5" Summit, all the cities and towns which subscribed the Declaration exposed the banner "2015! No Excuse", in order to give visibility to this important initiative and to inform the citizens about the Millennium Goals.
Finally, the City of Venice endorsed the lobby action carried out by the "Italian Coordination of Local Governments for Peace and Human Rights" and aimed at making the Government set the Millennium Goals amongst its political priorities and recognise the role of cities and town in implementing the Millennium goals.
