By train

Venice has two rail stations.

 

Venice-Mestre Rail Station

The first station that all Venice-bound trains enter is the Venice-Mestre Rail Station.
This station does not bring you to Venice, but rather Mestre, mainland Venice.
 
 
The rail station is located in Piazzale Favretti 1 - 30170 Mestre

You can get to the city from the station by taking the city bus or by taxi (Call a taxi: tel. 041.936222).

Attention: buy bus tickets at the nearest tobacconist or coffe shop (urban fare 1 €)
You must stamp your tickets on buses. On non-working days and weekdays from 8 pm until 7 am, you can buy your ticket on board the bus, by asking the driver. The cost is higher than the tickets normally available from any outlets . After purchasing, you must stamp your ticket in the machine. Please have the right coins ready. Urban fare 1,50€


 

Venice Santa Lucia Station


After crossing the bridge that spans the lagoon, the train next comes to the Santa Lucia Station of Venice.
 
The rail station is located on Fondamenta S. Lucia - 30100 Venice.

Before 1846, the year the rail bridge was officially opened, Venice and the mainland were connected only via water.

Just about every part of the city can be easily reached from the station, either on foot, by public boat (vaporetto) or water taxi

Customers with disabilities
Services for the Disabled

 

The Venice-Mestre and Venice-Santa Lucia rail stations are accessible to disabled persons. The stations have access ramps, wheelchair access restroom facilities, and a CAD (Centre for Assistance to Disabled Travellers).
 
Reserve 12/24 hours in advance if you are planning to take advantage the assistance service offered for boarding the train.
 
You can contact the Centre for Assistance to Disabled Travellers
- at Venice Santa Lucia and Venice Mestre stations on (+39)-041-785570 from 7.00 to 21.00.

- or call 199-30-30-60. It is a single contact number from anywhere in Italy - every day (including Sundays and Bank Holidays) from 7.00 to 21.00. 
 

To date, the ticket and travel information counters have unfortunately not been adapted to disabled persons.

The Venice-Mestre station has a motorized wheelchair lifts to reach the platforms, although they are not always in service.

Access to the boarding platforms is not a problem in the Venice-Santa Lucia station as there are no underground passages.
