The harbour area of Marghera (Marghera in Venitian language means 'there was the sea') was established after 1920. The port is specialized in unloading and loading operations, transhipment, storing and movement of goods and materials.
The centre of nearly continuous growth since the 1980s, the district of Marghera has been subjected to major restructuring and conversion of its industrial areas which is still ongoing today.
Marghera is situated on the mainland nearby Mestre and extends for about 1,550 hectares, 200 of which are set aside for commercial use, while the rest plays host to industrial facilities. Town officials expect to the see the commercial traffic areas undergo substantial growth in the future.
